Houseplay handled a complete transformation of our kitchen...We were so impressed with their many creative solutions...It was our first renovation, so we needed a lot of guidance and hand-holding. They responded promptly to our many questions, requests and concerns, and their team was always courteous and respectful of our home. We were even able to stay throughout the renovation...and our three children enjoyed having them around. Our new kitchen turned out even more beautiful, functional, and spacious than we had hoped it would be. We...spend hours in our kitchen every day, and we still absolutely love it...J.S.
I purchased a 4-unit building in Hoboken that needed considerable work ... .But [with] the company that was recommended to me and that I hired ... the project went over budget 100% and the work was not done up to par. When the building was finished ... we had to put the units for sale to pay for the increased cost. Two weeks later Hurricane Sandy flooded our basement unit ... a blessing in disguise [as] the unit was awful .... My realtor recommended Houseplay, and I cannot say enough about Tammy and Niall. Their work was on schedule and on budget. I would have loved to have used them for the initial project ...M.U.
I hired Houseplay Renovations to renovate my bathroom from top to bottom. Niall was by far the best contractor I have ever worked with. The entire process from the initial meeting until the completion of the project was professional, friendly and flexible. Niall and his team worked diligently and even came on Sunday when a delay, which was out of his control, occured. He is meticulous, offers good advice and really listens to what you want. His workmanship is of the highest standard and I couldn't be happier with the finished product. I'll definitely use Houseplay Renovations for any future projects.C.W.
From our home to yours.
Since we bought our first home, a tiny one-bedroom condo, we have been in a constant state of flux. Experimenting with different arrangements of furniture, different colors on the wall, and different storage solutions; always working to get it just right. Transforming our home into a place we love spending time in has been our ongoing mission.
As our family grew, we moved to a two-family fixer-upper in Cliffside Park, NJ. We completely renovated the home, and now its two apartments serve as a rental units. For the past several years, we have been working on our own living space in between our other projects, gradually creating the home we imagined when we first walked through the Bergen County house.
And we have three kids and two cats! We are particularly adept at working with families because we have experienced first-hand the craziness of renovating with the kids around.
We've had contractors stomp into the bedroom minutes after putting the baby down for a nap. We've had dust settle onto every toy and stuffed animal and bare surface when a careless crew forgot to put up plastic before sanding the plaster on the walls. We've cooked in half a kitchen...and then the other half, while changing out the cabinets and countertops. It wasn't easy, but we made it work.
If you similarly don't have anywhere else to take your family during your project, at least you can rest assured that we understand what you are up against and we will do our very best to be courteous, neat, and considerate of your schedule while working on your project.
Your home can reflect who you are and what you value, if you let it. When you choose to bring the home of your dreams to reality, we can support you every step of the way.
Meet the folks behind the curtain.
Niall founded Houseplay Renovations in 2007 after moving to the US from England, where he worked as a tradesman for many years. Niall's ability to see the big picture and simultaneously manage the details is key to Houseplay's success in a demanding industry. As a general contractor based in northeastern New Jersey, Niall's hands-on experience and knowledge of the construction trade informs his oversight work on a daily basis. He's the first person that clients talk to or meet with to describe their vision for their space. Here, Niall's ability to listen, answer questions, and offer guidance continues the tradition of client-centered renovation experiences that sets Houseplay apart. His technical know-how and eye for aesthetic possibilities combine to catalyze successful renovations. With Niall at the helm, Houseplay consistently challenges the negative contractor stereotype. In fact, potential clients often enjoy talking with Niall so much that they forget that he's there to gather information on their projects!

She loves collaborating with northern New Jersey homeowners from the very beginning of their process, redesigning their spaces from the inside out.
