We’re Not So Different From You
Since we bought our first home, a tiny one-bedroom condo in Jersey City Heights, NJ, we have been in a constant state of flux. Experimenting with different arrangements of furniture, different colors on the wall, and different storage solutions; always working to get it just right.
Transforming our home into a place we love spending time in has been our ongoing mission.
As our family grew, we moved to a two-family fixer-upper in Cliffside Park, NJ. We completely renovated the house, and now its two apartments serve as a rental units. For the inside scoop on the renovations of our historic 1921 home, check out Peeling Back the Layers and Peeling Back the Layers, Part II.
We have three kids and two cats, so we are particularly adept at working with families. We have firsthand experience with the craziness of renovating with the kids around. We’ve cooked in half a kitchen and had contractors stomp into the bedroom minutes after putting the baby down for a nap.
And while the families we work with today typically choose to move out of their homes (or delay moving in) for three to four months, we remember what it was like to live in a space under renovation.
We know that it isn’t easy to rearrange your habits and routines for a remodel. However, we also know that regular renovations are an essential part of maintaining the value of a home over time.
Updating your space isn’t a luxury; in fact, it’s part of the responsibility that comes with home ownership. When you invest in your space, you keep your property value high and position yourself to command an excellent selling price when the time comes.
At Houseplay, we offer a comprehensive suite of expert home renovation services to take you from concept to completion.
So when you’re ready to make the home of your dreams a reality, give us a call – we’ll support you every step of the way.
Our Project Team
Meet the folks behind the curtain!
Niall Templeman (Dedicated Project Manager / Co-Founder) founded Houseplay Renovations in 2007 after moving to the US from England, where he worked as a tradesman for many years. Niall’s ability to see the big picture and simultaneously manage the details is key to Houseplay’s success in a demanding industry.
As a general contractor based in northeastern New Jersey, Niall’s hands-on experience and knowledge of the construction trade informs his oversight work on a daily basis. He’s the first person that clients talk to or meet with to describe their vision for their space.
Here, Niall’s ability to listen, answer questions, and offer guidance continues the tradition of client-centered renovation experiences that sets Houseplay apart. His technical know-how and eye for aesthetic possibilities combine to catalyze successful renovations.
With Niall at the helm, Houseplay consistently challenges the negative contractor stereotype. In fact, potential clients often enjoy talking with Niall so much that they forget that he’s there to gather information on their projects!
Tamara Templeman (New Accounts and Interior Designer / Co-Founder) is passionate about helping clients transform their homes into beautiful, healthy, highly-functional spaces that fulfill their needs and desires.
Tamara co-founded Houseplay Renovations while studying Interior Design at Parsons, the New School for Design. After completing her BFA, she took on a full-time role in the company, supporting the on-site work by responding to homeowners’ questions and concerns, managing schedules, and corresponding with local building departments.
She now offers design services that mesh beautifully with Houseplay’s superior remodeling work. She loves collaborating with northern New Jersey homeowners from the very beginning of their process, redesigning their spaces from the inside out.
Veronika Bamfield (Assistant Interior Designer) partners with Tamara to design Houseplay’s projects, ensuring that work runs smoothly and details come together.
Veronika studied Construction Management at the prestigious University of Technology in Brno, Czech Republic and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Engineering. Upon graduation, she worked as a designer at Gifford, a leading UK engineering and environmental consulting company.
Eventually, she followed her heart across the Atlantic after five years of a long-distance relationship with her soon-to-be husband. Once in the US, Veronika volunteered for Sunflower Children and worked in real estate and property management at Stonehenge in NYC.
After the birth of her children, Veronika founded Bamboola Baby LLC to offer birth doula services and childbirth classes. Veronika loves helping homeowners navigate the renovation process and watching miracles unfold.
