Historic Brownstone Remodel Jersey City

There’s nothing like a fresh take on a classic story. (Just take a look at all the movie reboots being released these days!) There’s something special about time-honored traditions with an updated twist … and that’s what this new project is all about.

This Jersey City brownstone renovation is the latest in our growing list of historic district brownstone remodels. We are revamping the whole first floor, renovating the kitchen, dining and living area, and powder room too.

The homeowners love to entertain and socialize, so we allocated more space for a bigger dining table. Working in partnership with an architect, we created a plan to remove the supporting wall without the use of columns or soffits.

We are modernizing the home by adding a central HVAC to the whole house, removing outdated built-ins, and opening up a central wall for a more modern, open layout. Our team is adding several new windows and doors throughout the first floor, including new French doors opening from the foyer into the living space.

The young couple love the historic aspects of their home. As such, our team is taking care to remove worn and outdated features like the cracked parquet floor in the foyer, while preserving key historic features such as the solid hardwood sub-flooring throughout the first floor.

We are removing plaster to expose the original brick of the chimney and of the wall alongside the stairwell. We’re also taking care to lift and salvage a much-loved marble slab from the foyer and reinstall it in front of the living area fireplace.

The kitchen is receiving a complete update, with modern appliances, a ceramic subway tile backsplash, a farmhouse sink, new cabinets with quartz countertops, and lots of feature lighting. The finished powder room will include marble mosaic floor tile and a wall-hung sink and faucet.
