Our strategy is to work with our clients all the way from concept to completion.

Being a part of the process from the very beginning empowers us to create detailed, individualized design plans for each client. Those customized plans then facilitate a functional and efficient building phase.

When you hire Houseplay to design your Bergen County or Hudson County, NJ space, you’ll receive:

The design phase is a time of planning and tailoring, getting clear on exactly what you want for your space. Once the design phase is complete, many of our clients choose to continue working with us through the construction phase, and these clients receive exclusive discounts on design fees.

Here’s what you can expect if you pursue our design services:

Complimentary Consultation

At your first meeting with our estimator, we’ll walk with you through your space, so that you can detail your wish list for your home. We’ll listen closely as you describe what you want your space to be. We’ll also discuss the desired functionality of the space, as well as your overall budget for your home improvement project. At this point, it’s important for you to determine how much you’d like to invest in your home. (This report on cost versus value might be a valuable resource for you to explore.)

Design Agreement

Based on what you shared with our estimator, we’ll put together a design agreement detailing the scope of work based on what you discussed in your initial consultation. This will also include your target budget range and the design fee.

Once you’ve received the design agreement, you’ll meet with our designer in order to go through the document together. There, you’ll have a chance to ask any questions you may have. This meeting also serves as an opportunity to sign the agreement and make arrangements to move forward with your project. Work officially begins once the design agreement has been signed and any associated fees and deposits have been paid.

Design / The Fun Part

This phase typically lasts from 30-60 days, during which time we’ll work together to establish your taste and desires for the look and feel of the space. We’ll also start to break down the budget into labor and materials. Our designer will take a survey of your space in order to begin creating the necessary drawings. The designer will also specify all materials, finishes, fixtures, and paint colors necessary to complete the project.

After that, our designer will prepare a set of drawings and propose a materials palette to define and clarify your remodeling project. The drawings will include a floor plan, elevations as needed, sections and tile layout drawings as needed, an outline of specifications, and a firm price quotation for the proposed remodeling.

Firm Price Quotation

Once we have nailed down the details of the design, we’ll contact our subcontractors to give us accurate estimates for their portions of the work. This allows us to compile a final, firm quotation for the project as we have designed it for you.
